Our Culture

As an accredited tax specialist with the GST Division, my core work involves reviewing private ruling requests by businesses and conducting audits on companies. I’m able to balance my priorities both as an employee and a sportswoman. Overall, my boss and colleagues at IRAS have been positive and understanding of my sporting pursuits. I was warmly welcomed back following my return from full-time training for the Paralympic Games.

Volunteering in Cambodia is my first but most enriching experience. Interacting with the children and vilagers was highly endearing. What was especially inspiring was their spirit of giving and sharing. They did this despite the constant worry about making ends meet.

The internship experiences had taught me to appreciate how government decisions are often not easy to make. All the deliberations were very measured, and as a young intern it was invaluable seeing the intricacies of making these policy decisions, Colleagues and bosses are consultative, always ready to offer a second opinion, and there are often forums for officers to discuss issues or share learning points from case studies.

My passion in the subject of taxation led me to join IRAS in 2010. I was inspired to be an ATS as it provides an invaluable asset to my pursuit to be tax-competent. I look forward to leading and contributing to the technical development of IRAS and the tax community!

Besides classroom training, I have had many hands on opportunities to work on assignments outside my immediate area of work. These assignments have ranged from cross-divisional, inter-agency projects to supporting roles as secretariat at Technical Forums. These experiences have trained me to see from the perspectives of our key stakeholders and I am now able to take a whole-of governmental approach when designing compliance policies and initiatives.
